چکیده

Background The best way to assess the sobriety of a person is, of course, the direct analysis of blood sample collected at time of crime. But it is very often, that the driver that perpetrated the accident, escaped from the place of crime and the alcohol analysis is performed on blood samples taken several hours after he or she was involved in a motor vehicle accident or in some form of crime. In this situation a forensic scientists is sometimes asked to estimate the blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of the person at the time of the accident or crime. Such estimates have been called “retrograde extrapolations” or “back calculations”. They can also perform so-called “forward estimations” when a range of theoretical blood alcohol concentration values is computed as the result of drinking of a given amount of alcohol beverage. These calculations are performed usually in order to estimate a BAC at the time of an accident or crime when no blood specimen has been taken. In this case supposedly reliable information concerning the person’s alcohol intake prior to the event in question is usually available [1].

Theoretical Optimization of Troposphere Ionization Exchange Points to Reduce the Concentration of Fine Dust in Ahvaz City, Iran

Aims: The dust crisis and the numerous problems caused by it, which have affected most of the Western and Southwestern regions of Iran in recent years, need an appropriate and cost-effective solution to improve living and respiratory conditions without adverse human or environmental effects. The purpose of this study was to analyze the location of injection technology equipment to reduce the co...

Alcohol calculations and their uncertainty

A dilution model is widely used to link blood alcohol concentration and the quantity of alcohol consumed. Whilst some authors use the total body water formulation of that model, others use the Widmark Factor formulation. A paper by Forrest gave a table of example values of the Widmark Factor and Barbour, based on Forrest's work and using Forrest's computer program, subsequently presented Forres...

Theoretical and Experimental Study of Falling- Cylinder Rheometer

The present study attempted deriving and solving the falling- cylinder governing equations for power law model non-Newtonian fluids. Based on this theoretical study, a novel falling- cylinder rheometer (FCR) was designed and constructed to measure the Theological properties of non-Newtonian fluids. Different falling cylinders with predesigned densities were used to determine the apparent viscos...

Theoretical Calculations of Refractive Index of Synthesized One and Two Substituted Derivatives of Functionalized Bithiophene Compounds

In order to study the variation of electronic properties, a set of bithiophene derivatives has been ‎developed. Here, the effect of substitution on the aromaticity properties of some cyclic ‎bithiophene derivative compounds was investigated using theoretical calculations. Calculations ‎were performed at B3LYP/6-31+G (d,p) level; and calculated properties included energy, dipole ‎moment, total c...

Experimental and Theoretical Study of Phase Equilibria in Aqueous Mixtures of Lactic Acid with Benzyl Alcohol and p-Xylene at Various Temperatures

Liquid-liquid equilibria for the (water + lactic acid + benzyl alcohol or p-xylene) ternary systems were investigated at atmospheric pressure and in the temperature range from 298.15-318.15 K. The studied systems exhibit two types of liquid-liquid equilibrium (LLE) behavior. The system consisting of benzyl alcohol displays type-1 LLE behavior, while a type-2 behavior is exhibited by th...
